Text Content Follows Hierarchy
This relates closely to the idea of content categorisation, creating cells within a website of sufficient text volume to warrant it.
In other words – it makes sense to structure your content based on how it fits within the wiser structure of your website – and create self-standing pages when there’s enough content to warrant having a dedicated page. The ‘services’ page might break out into 3 sub-pages with a specific service on each page, and sit under the URL path like this:
home > services > specific service
For any site that covers a large topic where there are many sub-topics that don’t necessarily work well on the same page, there should be some structure in place via navigation (menu) and meaningful ‘parent-child’ kind of relationship to indicate where connections exist.
This makes perfect sense from a user perspective because it’s the same structure you would find in any reference book on a given topic. So if it works for users to have your content well organized, expect Google to be paying attention too.
